PRO­LOGUE.
What turns a man into a mon­ster?
What cir­cum­stances or com­bin­a­tion of cir­cum­stances can cause a de­cent, or­din­ary, at­tract­ive young male like Stan­ley Scott into a kid­nap­per, a rap­ist, a captor of fe­male flesh, a killer?
The four wo­men came out of the snow to Stan‘s isol­ated home, lost, help­less, ap­peal­ing, their car stuck in a ditch. Without con­scious plan or motive, he im­prisoned them in a secret room, pre­pared to take his pleas­ure of them one by one at the point of a gun.
By the time he began to ques­tion his be­ha­vior, to con­sider its al­most in­ev­it­able con­sequences, it was too late to undo his crime. One mem­ber of his un­happy harem was dead, an­other raped, the re­main­ing two filled with pas­sion­ate hatred, think­ing only of es­cape and ven­geance.
Why had he done it?
